National POW/MIA Recognition Day

September 20, 2024 @ 8:00 am5:00 pm

National POW/MIA Recognition Day is Friday September 20th.  This day serves as a reminder of America’s commitment to honoring and remembering the sacrifices of those who gave their lives in the defense of our country but who are still unaccounted for and those who were prisoners of war.  It is a testament to the dedication of the United States government to account for every service member who was ever lost but whose remains have not yet been found.  There can be no greater obligation of a free country than to strive to account for those who are still missing.

This year’s POW/MIA Recognition Day will be celebrated on Tuesday September 24th at the Flame of Hope at NAS Oceana.  The Ceremony will begin at 2 PM.  Patriotic, veterans, and civic organizations are invited to participate in the Ceremony and lay a wreath at the POW/MIA Memorial.

Please spread the word to your VSO’s about the Ceremony.  I would encourage all of you to participate.  The HRCVO will present our wreath as part of the Ceremony.  All of you are welcome to join me in the presentation.  I look forward to seeing you there.
